The Big 5

For 30 years, we’ve implemented this proven holistic approach in our practice.

"Living a healthy life and educating my community on the BIG 5 wellness lifestyle concept; faith, neurological connection, eating food from the earth, exercise, and intentional thinking. I believe everyone striving to improve in these five areas will restore their health and vitality, personal confidence and move toward an optimum quality of life. My goal is to ultimately make a difference within our community and beyond utilizing these principles."  - Dr. Palmer

We believe faith, believing in the Lord, is critically essential when talking about overall health and wellness. If you don’t believe in the Lord, who or what will you lean on when times get hard or challenging or you find yourself in a life crisis? Without support, your mental health can suffer and in time your physical health may suffer as well.

It’s a given, life throws us curve balls. It’s not always smooth sailing. We journey down into the valleys and up to the mountain tops. I choose to look at these hard times as tests, tests of our faith, our character, and our resilience of believing in what is not seen.

It is “the power that made the body, heals the body”. The brain and nervous system controls every cell, every system, and every function of the entire human body.

When the brain, through the nervous system, cannot flow correctly because of a subluxation, spinal nerve interference, that causes a lesser flow of nervous system communication.

Think of this as a "kink in the hose”. Water still flows but a lesser amount is flowing to reach each system and part of the body. Over time, the correct function of these systems, or body parts, begin to communicate that something is wrong through the language of symptoms.

Food is the gas to the “human” car of life and what we put into our body matter. If we eat crappy food we get crappy performance and shortened longevity in the game of life. Did you know that less food of high quality is actually good because it helps the body recycle junk from within. Hence the intermittent fasting and keto craze.

Exercise and movement is crucial for maintaining overall health and well-being in the human body for several reasons. Regular exercise improves cardiovascular health by strengthening the heart, lowering blood pressure, and improving circulation and can also reduce the risk of chronic diseases. It helps to build and maintain muscle strength and it improves flexibility and joint mobility, which can reduce the risk of injuries and improve overall functional movement.

Physical activity is closely linked to mental health and can help reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. Regular exercise can enhance memory, focus, and attention span, as well as promote neuroplasticity, which is the brain's ability to adapt and change over time.

Weight-bearing exercises such as walking, running, and strength training help to strengthen bones and reduce the risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures later in life. Moderate exercise can boost the immune system by promoting circulation and improving the body's ability to fight off infections and illnesses.

Research has consistently shown that regular physical activity is associated with a longer lifespan and reduced risk of premature death from all causes.

Your thoughts drive your day and your moods. Like with every story there are two sides, one’s thoughts can lift you up or sink you down. It is so important to be alert of how you talk to yourself and what your head space traffic is like.

Emotions such as depression, anxiety, defeat, uncertainty, doubt, etc. are not of God. Those emotions and this way of thinking take you away from your purpose and dims the light within you. God is hope, peace, purpose, joy, love and more. Starting your day with the Lord, protecting your thoughts and looking at life in a manner that drives the direction of your life, your relationships and your joy is key.

Bottom line: Your thinking can lead you north or south because there is no pause or neutral in life. Control your thoughts, drive them towards the encouraging side of life, be your own best friend and press on with living a joyful, healthy life.
